Adding Some Secret Sauce to Tampa Bay Blues Festival Since 1999

Since 1995, the annual Tampa Bay Blues Festival has been one of the highlights of spring in the Tampa Bay metro area. And while some may say that the blues isn’t as popular as it used to be, the fact that the 2017 festival broke all attendance records indicates that love of the blues just keeps growing.

As a blues lover, Blues Fest, as it has come to be known, has been on my “must do” list from year one. Bayprint’s association with the original Tampa Bay Blues Festival began in 1999. Over the past 19 festivals, we’ve produced many printing and promotional items.

This list could go on quite a ways, but you see what I mean. What most attendees don’t know is that Bayprint has added a bit of “special sauce” to our Blues Fest work over the years.

Because festival tickets are such a hot item, they also have become the subject of forgers who attempt to produce knockoff tickets they can sell to unsuspecting blues fans. As the affordability and quality of desktop printers improves, one of Bayprint’s tasks has become to design and print individual-day tickets and three-day passes that change from one year to the next and are complex enough that forgeries can be easily detected at the gate.

Each year we incorporate unique paper stocks and inks plus printing techniques such as sequential numbering and bar coding (thanks to Bayprint’s variable-data digital imaging capability that make producing phony tickets an unaffordable (if not impossible) venture.

While ticket security may not be the sexiest part of Blues Fest, it is the secret sauce that Bayprint provides each year. It also helps ensure that this most popular event will continue in St. Pete’s Vinoy Park.
